My life long purpose as a visual artist is to achieve a versatility and mastery with one of the world's earliest basic forms of human expression, painting and drawing. My career's primary objective is to share my own expression in an enduring form.
From Childhood on I had a fascination for recreating the world around me. I felt a great need to draw and paint and bring that world to life in art. I spent summer's as a boy on my grandparent's farm. I have traveled to many parts of the southwest and developed a deeply personal connection and respect for the spectacular landscapes, the wildlife and the indigenous cultures of Utah and the southwest.
Following my academic and fine art studies at the University of Utah in the early 70's, I moved to Denver, Colorado for employment in a private hospital. There I met and was invited to join a small select group of artists who studied with and recieved professional guidance from reknown international artist, Pavel Kontny. In that fertile environment of friends and artists I conducted life drawing classes. I also began to accept commissions and to display with a Denver art gallery. At that time in Colorado I learned to work with flexible arrangements of portrait commissions, gallery sales and part time teaching.
Since about 1980 I have been a practicing artist in my home state of Utah. I have developed a versatile range of commissioned fine art.
I have accepted and created a wide assortment of comissions for clients, and designers. Where the client's concept meets the painter's imagination is always a surprising and interesting artistic result.
My commissioned art reporatory has included landscape paintings, portraits of children and adults, residential and business wall murals, historical subjects, and decorative furniture painting.
As well as producing a wide range of commissioned art I have as time permitted participated in some group shows, art festivals and I have produced three one man gallery shows. I also have experience teaching art classes in private studios and school settings in Denver and Salt Lake. Most recently I have taught drawing classes at Peter Prier's International Violin Making School in Salt Lake for a five year period.
After more than two decades as an independant artist purveying a variety of painted art along with teaching and exhibits I am now working more on my own chosen subjects for gallery consignment. I continue to accept private commissions.
